An introduction
Web-Based Food Quality Tracking System
TrackEat is a web-based food quality tracking solution to help manufacturers and distributors of food products to promote the actual quality of their products by publishing in the Internet, lot-by-lot, the most meaningful aspects of their production (
where, how and by whom products or their ingredients were transformed or grown, with the possibility to attach videos, pictures of external documents). It works perfectly as anti-fake food tracking tool, to actually prove to the consumers what is claimed by the brand in term of origin, processing etc.
The solution is
highly participative (it permits to collect data along the entire supply chain trough different data collection modes and tools),
cost effective and normally
investment-free.
With it, customers can
extend food quality tracking coverage to the distribution-related activities, in order to provide consumers with full visibility on both productive and distributive processes. As a matter of fact, distribution can impact on the actual or perceived quality as much as production; see for instance:
-
The increasing interest towards over local and seasonal productions seen as a sustainable alternative to “global” food.
- The importance that adequate storage and transportation conditions may have on certain types of fresh food.
Customers can be invited to access the web site and read the history of that specific product lot printed on the product package. The presentation screens would be provided directly by
Traceland, yet they can be
customized in term of logo, background, lay-out and content to suit each customer’s need.
HACCP Food Safety Traceability and Certification System
The web screen would normally be accessed
from home (i.e.: after the product has been purchased). However, under certain conditions, the access could also take place in front of the shelf: this can be accomplished either by arranging with key distributors a permanent / rotationary presence of info points (i.e.: a touch-screen PC installed in a “totem”), or by offering to the customers the possibility to log to our application through cell-phones.
The major strength of this application is the
absolute flexibility of the food safety traceability and certification software tool, which allows to collect of
data of various kinds, using
different tools and modes (distributed web data entry, automatic interfaces, mobile data entry through PDAs or cell phones, bar-codes scanning or RFID detection, documents digitalization or event automated reading, etc.). This flexibility permits to address
dynamic and complex situations rather effectively and with minimized effort.
The end result is that the consumer can get to know several key aspects of the history of production and distribution of what he is eating or drinking (or what he/she is about to buy), receiving clear and documented answers to questions like, for instance:
- From what stable comes the milk used to produce the cheese purchased (or on the shelf ..)?
- Who has produced the corn used to produce corn-flakes and how (e.g. who did they buy the seeds from)?
- How many distributors dealt with this fruit, who has produced it, when was it picked-up and how far did it travel?
- How does the production site and process look physically?
- ...
